One of Mosman’s most remarkable women is selling one of the suburb’s most remarkable properties – a waterfront home held for 60 years that has attracted would-be buyers for decades.

Jean Wilmot has an OAM for her contribution to sailing and dancing in Australia. She raised six children – five of whom were world champions in sailing and water sport, and some were Olympians.

She started a dancing school from a studio in her home and went on to teach dancing for 60 years.

After retiring Jean became a high-kicking dancing granny for Todd McKenny, now a judge on Dancing With The Stars.

Agent Richard Simeon says people have been eyeing the waterfront position for decades.

At 76 she could still do the splits and she became one of Todd’s main dancers in his live touring shows.

Now aged 95 Jean has decided it’s time to sell the solid brick waterfront home on Middle Harbour she has held since 1961.

Agent Richard Simeon, of Simeon Partners, said 15 Burton St on 1095sqm of land stretching to Quakers Hat Bay is an unrivalled deep waterfront estate that has the potential to be a generational jewel.

He said people have been eyeing that position for decades and the wide and deep block will almost certainly be developed for a new trophy home.

There are expectations of $20m in an expressions of interest campaign.

Nathan Wilmot, left, won sailing gold in the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the 470 class.

“This is Mosman’s most prestigious waterfront location boasting an ideal due-north aspect, gun-barrel water views the length of Middle Harbour,” he said.

The property with more than 180-degree water views has the biggest boatshed in the area, jetty, pontoon and slipway.
The Wilmot children growing up on the water quickly took to sailing and excelled.

Jamie and Bobby Wilmot competed in the Seoul Olympics in 1988, Bobby won bronze in windsurfing in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and Amanda Wilmot was the first Australian female to win open world sailing championships and the first women to sail the Sydney to Hobart race 10 times.

Not to be outdone, Jeanine and Rowena Wilmot both became world champions in the cherub sailing class.

Even Jean’s grandchildren are sailing champions, Nathan Wilmot won sailing gold in the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the 470 class, David Chapman was a tactician on the winning boat in the Sydney to Hobart race and Jeremy Wilmot is currently sailing for Sail GP in America.

Meanwhile one grandchild followed Jean in dance.

Aimee Atkins danced professionally for the ABC and for three years performed as Dorothy the Dinosaur in the Wiggles shows.
